CC | Request to increase weekly flights between St. Maarten and Curaçao denied again by minister

WILLEMSTAD - The request by the airline Winair to increase the number of weekly flights between Sint Maarten and Curaçao from seven to eleven has been denied by the Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Spatial Planning (VVRP), Charles Cooper (MFK).

This decision was communicated in a letter to Winair's director, Hans van de Velde.

Despite this denial, Minister Cooper has granted Winair permission to operate additional flights throughout August to accommodate the typical summer peak in travel demand. In the letter, Cooper explained that his decision considered three primary factors: the profitability and continuity of the airlines, the demand for passenger air transport, and the need for safe and sustainable air connections.

Cooper was required to make a decision by Monday following a court order. On July 29, the court had ruled that the previous rejection of Winair's request was insufficiently justified.
